Geneva, NY -- After falling behind early in the game, the Elmira College men's soccer team used a late push to make things interesting against Hobart College but eventually fell on the road, 3-1. Elmira's
Ryan Limero '14 tallied his first goal of the season in the 81st minute of action.
The Soaring Eagles kept the Statesmen offense at bay for most of the first half until the 33rd minute when Joe Busuttil scored his third goal of the season, putting Hobart ahead 1-0. A little over six minutes later Tyler Niles added to the Statesmen lead with a goal of his own in the 39th minute, giving Hobart a 2-0 edge. Niles' goal would be the last of the half as the Soaring Eagles entered halftime trailing 2-0.
In the second half, things seemed to be on more of an even scale as the Purple and Gold outshot the Statesmen, 8-to-6. However, Hobart would again make the most of their chances by notching their third goal of the game in the 71st minute.
EC's Limero would cut the Statesmen lead to two as he scored his first goal of the season at the 80:25 mark. Limero broke through Hobart's back line, creating a one-on-one opportunity with the keeper. From there, Limero delivered a strike into the left corner of the net for the score.
Unfortunately, Limero's goal would be the final one of the game as the Soaring Eagles fell, 3-1. EC netminder
Nick Lapinski '17 came up with six saves in today's contest.
Elmira will look to bounce back as they return to Campus Field for their final home game of the 2013 season on Saturday, October 26th when the Soaring Eagles host Houghton College. Game-time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
