Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College women's volleyball team dropped two matches this weekend in the second leg of the 2013 Empire 8 Crossover Weekend. EC fell in game one to Stevens Tech. 3-0 and came up just short in the final match of the day against Houghton College, losing 3-2.
Sami Hanes '16 totaled 84 assists in the two matches, bumping her career total to 748 which places her 10th in Elmira College history for career assists.
In the two matches,
Taryn Rumsey '14 showed her overall skill set as she recorded 43 kills to go along with 37 digs. Second-year setter Hanes directed the offense as she totaled 84 assists, including a career high 51 assists against Houghton.

Stevens Tech 3, Elmira College 0 (25-22, 25-23, 25-14)
Elmira put up a tough fight against the Ducks of Stevens Tech., who finished the weekend with a perfect 3-0 record to remain undefeated in Empire 8 Conference play. Match Two Recap
Houghton College 3, Elmira College 2 (23-25, 25-16, 29-31, 25-10, 15-5)
EC took an early 2-1 lead against the Highlanders of Houghton College. However, Houghton would rally from the early deficit to claim the final two sets, and the match, 3-2. Rumsey again led the team in kills with 29 while rookie
Alicia Day '17 posted double-digit kills with 10. Hanes set-up the Elmira attack, recording a career high 51 assists, bumping her career total 748 which places her 10th in career assists in Elmira College history.
Elmira will have just about a week to prepare for their next tournament when they compete in the Cazenovia College Invitational, starting on Friday, October 11th.
