Elmira, NY --
The Elmira College men's soccer team stood toe-to-toe with arguably their strongest competitor thus far in the University of Scranton, but a goal by the Royals with just over six minutes to play enabled Scranton to edge out the Soaring Eagles 1-0. The win brings the Royals to 7-1-3 on the season while the loss drops EC to 4-6.

The first half was a defensive battle as the teams played to a 0-0 tie. Each team would have a few good looks on net, but the respective keepers kept the game scoreless.

The second half was much of the same style of play as the game remained scoreless well into the final 45 minutes. Each team began pressing for that tie-breaking goal, putting shot after shot towards the net. With just under seven minutes to play, Scranton won a free kick in their offensive half of the field. The ball was sent into the 18-yard box and a shot was fired at the goal. Nick Lapinski '17 made the initial save, but he could not gain possession of the ball. The loose ball was then followed up by the Scranton player and blasted into the back of the net. Elmira kept pressuring over the final five-plus minutes to score the equalizer, but the Scranton defense held strong.

The Soaring Eagles will be back in action on Saturday, October 12th when they travel to Ithaca College for an Empire 8 Conference matchup. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
