Women’s Volleyball Bows out of Empire 8 Tournament

The Elmira College women's volleyball team (21-12, 4-3 E8) fell to Nazareth College (28-8, 6-1 E8) in the Empire 8 Semifinal 3-0 today. Taryn Rumsey '14 led the Soaring Eagles tonight with 11 kills, three digs and one block assist.
 
The Purple and Gold didn't go down easy in today's contest as they lost two sets by a combined seven points. In the first set Elmira found themselves down 24-22 and managed to tie it up at 24 before Nazareth scored two more points to close out the first set 26-24. In the second set the Golden Flyers took the momentum from the first set and won 25-16. Elmira regrouped in the third set and found themselves down by only one before Nazareth went on a 6-2 run to close out the match.
 
Kierstin Derr '16 also chipped in with eight kills and one dig while Ashley Heiman '16 and Alicia Day '17 combined for 10 kills, four digs, three block assists and one solo block. Sami Hanes '16 helped out with 28 assists, three aces and six digs for the Purple and Gold while Catherine Miller '14 led the EC women defensively with 12 digs.
 
With the Empire 8 playoffs over for the EC squad, Elmira will await for selections for the ECAC Championships to continue their season.
