Men’s Volleyball Ranked No. 11 in Latest AVCA Poll

Elmira, NY – The Elmira College Men's Volleyball team made a large jump in the American Volleyball Coaches Association Top 15 Poll as they came in at the No. 11 spot, as the poll was released Tuesday afternoon.

The No. 11 ranking is the highest the Soaring Eagles have been in the three-year history of the program. The previous high prior to this week was the March 13th, 2012 poll where EC came in at No. 12.

The Soaring Eagles, who started the season in the No. 15 position, but later fell out of the poll after starting the season 0-2, are back in the Top 15. Last week Elmira still received seven votes, but made a large jump in the poll after a 5-0 week that included victories over three Top 15 opponents.

No. 11 Elmira (5-2, 1-0 UVC) received 76 total points in the poll and narrowly found its way into the Top 10. Springfield continues to hold the top spot in the nation as they received 238 total points and all but one of the first-place votes. Carthage (218), UC Santa Cruz (195), Juniata (186) and Nazareth (183) round out the Top 5.

The Purple and Gold's schedule doesn't get any easier as they play a pair of Top 10 opponents this weekend in United Volleyball Conference action hosted by Medaille College. EC opens action on Saturday taking on No. 9 SUNY New Paltz at 11:00 a.m. They follow that with a 5:00 p.m. tilt the same day with No. 6 Stevens, before completing the weekend facing unranked SUNY IT at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
