Women's Volleyball Takes Two More Wins In Day One of The Ramapo College Invite

Mahwah, NJ-- The Elmira College women's volleyball team (5-0) picked up two more non-conference wins this evening. Elmira traveled to Ramapo College to participate in the Roadrunner Invitational where they competed against Farmingdale State College and Ramapo College in day one of the two day tournament. Elmira won each match 3-0.

On the offense, Kierstin Derr '16 led the Soaring Eagles with 19 kills to improve her season total to 50. Taryn Rumsey '14 also contributed with 18 kills on the day. Sami Hanes '16 helped the team out with 46 assists to bump up her total to 154 so far this season.

On the defense, Catherine Miller '14 posted a team high of 26 digs on the day, while Ashley Heiman '16 added four blocks to double her total blocks for the season.

Elmira will compete in day-two of the tournament tomorrow, where they are slated to play St. Joseph's at Noon and Mt. Aloysius at 2:00 p.m.

Elmira 3, Farmingdale 0 – 25-13, 25-21, 25-12

Elmira kicked off the two-day tournament by taking on Farmingdale, where they took control early as they won in just three sets. Derr and Heiman led the EC women offensively as they combined to collect a total of 11 kills as Miller collected five digs to lead the defensive side.

Elmira 3, Ramapo 0 – 25-17, 25-19, 25-15

The Purple and Gold carried the momentum of the second game as they won in three sets also, and allowed no more than 17 points. Rumsey led the charge as she recorded 16 kills and five aces, while Derr posted 12 kills. Hanes helped the offense by pitching in 33 assists in the win. On defense, Miller recorded 21 digs while Heiman posted four solo blocks.
