Women's Volleyball Extend Win Streak to Seven

 The Elmira College women's volleyball team (7-0) finished the weekend off strong as they upped their win streak to seven. EC competed in day-two of the Roadrunner Invitational at Ramapo College, where they defeated St. Joseph's 3-0 and Mt. Aloysi 3-1.

Offensively, Taryn Rumsey '14 led the EC women with 33 kills on the day, while Alicia Day '17 posted 15 kills. Sami Hanes '16 notched in 75 assists in today's action to bump up her season total to 229.

Defensively, Catherine Miller '14 led EC with 26 digs, while Ashley Heiman '16 notched in eight more blocks, to bring her season total to 16.

Elmira will test their flawless record against their Empire 8 conference rival Alfred University this Monday, September 16th at 7:00 p.m. in the Soaring Eagles home opener.

Elmira 3, St. Joseph's 0 – 25-7, 25-22, 32-30

The Purple and Gold started the first set out strong as they held St. Joes to only seven points. The second set, the EC women won by only three points, and the third set was the closest as EC had to score 32 points to close out the SJC Golden Eagles. Rumsey and Kierstin Derr '16 put up 20 kills, while Hanes helped the offense by producing 28 assists. On the defensive side Derr and Miller combined to post 22 digs while Heiman notched in five block assists in the first win of the day.

Elmira 3, Mt. Aloysi 1 – 26-17, 23-25, 25-18, 25-18

The Soaring Eagles finished the two-day tournament off strong as they won in four sets, and not allowing more than 18 points in every set they won. Rumsey and Day led of the offense as they combined to take a total of 32 kills. Hanes was there to help set them up as she notched a total of 47 assists, and on defense Miller posted 14 digs and Day posted five blocks, with three being solo blocks.
