Women's Volleyball Suffers First Loss of the Season To St. John Fisher

The Elmira College women's volleyball team (8-1, 1-1 E8) ended their win streak tonight as they fell to Empire 8 Conference opponent  St. John Fisher three sets to two.

Elmira looked to extend their winning streak as they won the first two sets 25-21. St. John Fisher  would then battle back and win the next three sets 25-17, 25-22, and 15-11.

The Purple and Gold were led offensively today by, yet again, the fourth-year veteran Taryn Rumsey '14. Rumsey posted 18 kills and three aces in today's contest. Rumsey leads the conference in kills with 135. Also pitching in for the offense was Kierstin Derr '16 who recorded 15 kills, and two aces today. Sami Hanes '16 contributed with 39 assists. Hanes is currently second in total assists this season in the Empire 8 with 296.

On defense Catherine Miller '14 led the way for the team as she registered 21 digs, putting her fifth in the conference in digs with 124. Derr and Hanes both chipped in with 13 digs a piece as well, while Rumsey posted nine.

The EC women will travel to the Oswego State University Invitational this Friday and Saturday. Friday Elmira will play against SUNY Geneseo and Oswego State, while on Saturday the Soaring Eagles will compete against Alfred State College and Hilbert College.
