Oswego, NY -- The Elmira College women's volleyball team (9-4) lost the first matchup today against Alfred State College (9-4) in another five-set thriller, then finished the Oswego State University Invitational with a 3-0 sweep against Hilbert College (4-9).

The Purple and Gold started the match strong as they won the first two sets but could not close the match out as Alfred State battled back and won the next three sets. Elmira was led by
Taryn Rumsey '14 who posted 21 kills, 11 digs, two block assists and one solo block in the first game of today's action. Also chipping in for the Soaring Eagles were
Kierstin Derr '16 and
Amanda Blinkinsop '16 who combined to notch in 25 kills, 15 digs, three aces and three block assists.
Sami Hanes '16 and
Catherine Miller '14 also helped out today. Hanes penciled in 49 assists, 10 digs, two block assists and one kill, while Miller posted 27 digs and two assists.
Match Two Recap
Elmira 3, Hilbert 0 – 25-16, 25-23, 25-20
EC finished the Oswego State University Invitational on a high note as they swept Hilbert College three sets to none to snap the four-game losing streak. Elmira was led by Blinkinsop who tallied 13 digs, nine kills, one assist and one ace in the second game of the day. Rumsey helped out with 14 digs, seven kills, one ace and one block assist while
Sara Pieniazek '17 and Hanes combined to post 26 assists and six digs.
Elmira will return to action when they host Alfred State College in a rematch of today's game on September 24
th at 7:00 p.m.
