Women's Volleyball Drops Two In the Second Day of the Lycoming State Invitational

Williamsport, PA -- The Elmira College Women's volleyball team (11-7) dropped both games in the second day of the Lycoming College Invitational today. The first matchup was against Misericordia University (7-8) where the Soaring Eagles fell 3-0. The Purple and Gold went on to compete against St. Mary's College of Maryland (12-2) in the second game and lost 3-1. Taryn Rumsey '14 led the Soaring Eagles in today's games and earned the All-Tournament Team accolade for both days of action.

Game One Recap
Elmira 0, Misericordia 3 – 21-25, 19-25, 21-25
In the first game of the double-header the EC women played against the Misericordia Cougars.  The Soaring Eagles battled the Cougars in the first set as the score was tied on eight different occasions, but Misericordia was able to slip past Elmira to take the first set by four points. Elmira tried to regroup in the second set but would eventually fall by six points. Elmira looked like they would be able to take the third set but the Cougars were able to regroup and go on a 11-1 run to close out the set to edge out the Soaring Eagles by four points once again. Elmira was led offensively by Rumsey and Sami Hanes '16. Rumsey led the team in kills with 18 and also chipped in with six digs, two assists and one ace. Hanes led the team in assists with 37 and also notched 10 digs and one kill in today's action.  Catherine Miller '14 and Kelsey Ross '16 led the defensive effort as they combined to total 17 digs.

Game Two Recap
Elmira 1, St. Mary's 3 – 22-25, 22-25, 25-22, 25-13

In the second game of the day Elmira played against the St. Mary's College of Maryland Seahawks.  Elmira fell in the first two sets by just three points. The EC women were able to turn things around in the third set as they were able to take one of their own by three points. The Seahawks proved too much for the Soaring Eagles as they fell in the third set 25-13. Leading the Purple and Gold was once again Rumsey and Hanes. Rumsey had 18 kills, 10 digs, two aces and one solo block while Hanes pitched in with 37 assists, nine digs, and one kill in the game. Ross and Miller also led the defensive effort in the second game as they combined to total 32 digs.
 
Elmira will only have a few days rest as they will prepare to travel to the Pennsylvania College of Technology on October 1st.
