Aston, PA -- The Elmira College men's ice hockey team (10-7-0, 5-2-0 ECAC West) used three third period goals to outscore Neumann University (7-7-3, 2-4-1 ECAC West) 5-2.  Josh Burnell '15 posted two goals in the win while Sal Magliocco '17 made 28 saves in his ninth win of the season.

Once again, it didn't take EC long to get on the board as Rob Simpson '16 scored his first career goal unassisted just 2:24 into the game. The Knights responded back with 8:42 left in the first period to tie the game up, 1-1. EC tied with Neumann in shots in the first with 10 apiece.

EC started the second period off strong as Jesper Strale '14 slipped the puck past Neuman's netminder on the man-up opportunity. Michael Collins '16 and Jarryd ten Vaanholt '16 were credited with the helpers on the play. The Knights led the Soaring Eagles in shots in the second, 12-8.

The Soaring Eagles held the 2-1 lead over the Knights until 6:04 into the third period when Ryan Luiten tossed one into the Purple and Gold's net to even the game at two apiece. Burnell scored on the man-up opportunity with ten Vaanholt and Eric David '15 picking up the assists on the play.  ten Vaanholt increased the lead to 4-2 after Collins and Taylor Love '16 tossed the puck to him and he put it in the net.

With just 1:26 left in the game the Soaring Eagles found themselves down a man, but that wouldn't stop Burnell from stopping any type of comeback from Neumann as he was able to get the puck into the Knights open net to increase the lead to 5-2. Andrew Ciampichini '15 and Love were credited with the assists on the play. EC held the shot advantage in the third, 11-8 and overall Neumann held the 30-29 advantage.

Elmira will attempt the weekend sweep over Neumann tomorrow, January 25th, at 7:00 p.m.
