Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College men's soccer team will look to bounce back from Saturday's 2-1 home loss to Utica College as the Soaring Eagles travel to Alfred, NY to take on non-conference opponent Alfred State. Kick-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
Last Time OutElmira dropped a heartbreaker in their last contest to Empire 8 Conference rival Utica College. The Soaring Eagles surrendered the game's opening goal just 20 minutes into the contest but evened things up in the 41st minute on a goal by
Victor Rosas-Granda '18. Unfortunately, the Pioneers of Utica would score a late goal in the second half to seal the 2-1 victory.
Jordan Dougherty '16 got the start in net for Elmira and made nine saves in 90 minutes of action.
Scouting Alfred StateThe Pioneers of Alfred State enter tonight's contest with a 4-6 overall record and are 2-3 in their last five games. Alfred State is led on offense by Brandon Holley who has a team-leading four goals, three of those goals coming in Alfred's last three contests. Defensively, Alfred will rely on Nickolas Weir to keep the ball out of the back of the net as the second-year goalie has seen the majority of time this season for the Pioneers. Weir has started in nine of 10 games played and has made 55 saves in 713 minutes of action.
All-Time SeriesThere has been only one meeting between Elmira and Alfred State in the last 12 years. That contest took place last year at Campus Field, a game in which the Soaring Eagles posted a convincing 3-0 win.
