Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College men's soccer team will conclude their three-game road trip this Saturday, October 18th with an Empire 8 Conference match-up with the Saxons of Alfred University. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Alfred University's Yunevich Stadium at Merrill Field.
Last Time OutThe Soaring Eagles enter Saturday's contest after dropping a non-conference road game to the Roos of SUNY Canton, 4-1. Elmira conceded the game's first score on an own goal in the 20th minute and allowed another Canton score in the 26th minute. EC midfielder
Chris Aristizabal '16 cut the Canton lead to one as he netted his first career goal in the 27th minute on a 20 yard strike. However, the Roos would score two unanswered goals en route to a 4-1 win.
Scouting the SaxonsAlfred enters Saturday's game with a 6-4-2 overall record with a 2-1 mark in Empire 8 Conference play. The Saxons are known for being a solid team defensively but this year Alfred has also figured some things out on the offensive end. As a team, Alfred has scored 22 goals this season compared to the 21 they recorded in 2013. The difference this year has been the play of 6'2" forward Jeff Thomas. Thomas leads the Saxons with 12 points on five goals and two assists, which is already 11 points better than last season.
All-Time SeriesSince 2002, Elmira and Alfred have played each other 12 times with the Soaring Eagles holding an 8-4 edge in the series. Elmira is currently on a seven-game win streak with their last loss occurring in the 2006 season when the Saxons defeated the Soaring Eagles 4-3 in double overtime.
Looking AheadFollowing Saturday's conference game, the Elmira men will return home on Tuesday, October 21st when the Soaring Eagles host Hobart College for a non-conference match-up. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at Elmira College's Campus Field.
