Women’s Volleyball Set for Empire 8 Tri-Match

Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College women's volleyball team is ready for a competitive weekend of volleyball as the Soaring Eagles welcome Hartwick College and Nazareth College to Speidel Gymnasium for the Empire 8 Tri-Match.  Play begins tomorrow, October 3rd at 11:00 a.m. when the Purple and Gold take on Nazareth. 
 
Last Time Out
The Elmira College women's volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to Utica College in their most recent contest, which took place at the SUNY IT Tournament. Elmira was unable to salvage a win over the weekend as the Soaring Eagles took three, 3-1 losses to SUNY IT, Alfred State, and Utica.
 
Welcome Home Ladies
Tomorrow's Empire 8 Tri-Match marks the first home contest for the Soaring Eagles since the season opener back on September 2nd.  Since 2001, Elmira has gone 19-14 in home games following road contests.  Last season, Elmira went 3-1 in home contests following a road trip. 
 
Elmira vs. Hartwick
Elmira has been successful against the Hawks of Hartwick College as the Soaring Eagles enter Saturday's matchup on an 11-match win streak, dating back to the 2008 season.  Since 2001, Elmira has gone 19-1 against the Hawks.
 
Elmira vs. Nazareth
The Soaring Eagles have not had much success over the years against the Golden Flyers of Nazareth College.  Nazareth has won the previous four matches and owns a 16-3 record against Elmira since the 2001 season.  Elmira's last win against Nazareth occurred during the 2011 Empire 8 Crossover, which took place at Speidel Gymnasium in Elmira, NY.
 
Looking Ahead
Following tomorrow's Empire 8 Conference Tri-Match, the Soaring Eagles will continue their four-match homestand on Wednesday, October 8th when Elmira welcomes Alfred University to Speidel Gymnasium for a 7:00 p.m. match-up.  Elmira enters Wednesday's contest riding a 22-match win streak against the Saxons that dates back to the 2000 season.
