Elmira, NY -- The 2014 season for the Elmira College women's volleyball team will come to a close this weekend as the Soaring Eagles will play in their final matches of the year at the New York State Regional Challenge, hosted by Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ. Elmira opens play today at 4:00 p.m. when EC takes on former Empire 8 Conference member RIT.
Last Time OutElmira struggled in their most recent match, falling on the road to SUNY Cortland, 3-0. The Soaring Eagles had a tough time finding points as EC produced just 16 total kills.
Career 2,000 on the HorizonThird-year setter
Sami Hanes '16 enters the weekend with 1,923 career assists, just 77 assists shy of career 2,000. Hanes will need to average 19.25 assists per match to reach the 2,000 assist mark, a task that seems manageable considering she is averaging just over 30 assists per set this season. If Hanes is able to record 77 assists, she will become the seventh player in Elmira College history to log 2,000 or more career assists and the first player to do so since former standout Molly Short '13 did it back in 2012.
