Buffalo, NY --
The Elmira College men's volleyball team (12-6, 3-3 UVC) used a balanced attack along with an efficient hitting performance to sweep D'Youville College (2-8, 0-6 UVC) on the road, 3-0.  As a team, the Soaring Eagles put forth a .508 hitting percentage, making good on 36 of their 63 attempts while making just four errors.  Elmira's .508 hitting percentage is the highest the Soaring Eagles have had since last year's win over Cazenovia College on March 24th when EC boasted a hitting percentage of .526.

Erik Griffin '16 was the only Soaring Eagle with double-digit kills in tonight's match as he recorded 10.  Ryan Gelenitis '14 was not far behind with nine kills to go along with seven digs and a pair of blocks.  Orchestrating the Elmira offense was none other than Michael Vellutato '14, who totaled 30 assists.

The Spartans of D'Youville took an early 3-1 lead in the first set but three straight points for the Soaring Eagles quickly erased the two-point deficit.  From there, D'Youville pieced together two successful points to take back a slim 5-4 lead but that would be the last time EC trailed in the first set as the Soaring Eagles ran away with it, winning the first set 25-16.  Credit captains Ryan Nerney '14 and Gelenitis for setting the tone in the first set as they accounted for six of Elmira's eight kills.

In the second set, Elmira rode the momentum of the first as the Purple and Gold jumped out to a convincing 6-0 lead and would go on to win 10 of the set's first 13 points.  Much like the first, Elmira would cruise in the second, taking it 25-13.  D'Youville's 13 points in the set ties the lowest amount Elmira has allowed all season, not including fifth sets.

The third set looked to be the most competitive of the three as the Spartans trailed by only three points, 14-11.  However, six straight points by the Soaring Eagles blew the set wide open as Elmira took a commanding 20-11 lead and would eventually win the set 25-14.

Elmira will have a little over a week off before competing in the second UVC Crossover, which will be hosted by the Soaring Eagles on March 8th and 9th.  In this crossover of matches, Elmira will face Stevens Institute of Technology, Bard College, and New York University.
