Live Coverage Coverage
Elmira, NY-- The Elmira College men's ice hockey team will host their first playoff game since the 2011-12 season when they take the ice against Hobart College on Saturday, March 1st at 7:00 p.m. This will be the third time in a row that EC will play the Statesmen, having lost twice in overtime to Hobart in the final weekend of the regular season.

Quest for 10
EC stands just two victories from their 10th ECAC West Tournament Championship. Their most recent championship came in the 2010-11 season when the Soaring Eagles defeated Neumann University 5-1 in the title game. An ECAC West championship in 2013-14 would give the Purple and Gold the most titles in ECAC West history, a mark currently shared with former conference rival, RIT.

We Meet Again
Elmira and Hobart College have met four times in the ECAC West playoffs, all in the semifinal round, since the 1992-93 season. EC has won each of the four meetings and the Soaring Eagles have gone on to win the ECAC West Championship three out of the four times, the most recent of which came in the 2010-11 season.

Playoff Hockey at the Domes
The Soaring Eagles will host an ECAC West playoff game for the first time since the 2011-12 season, the last of a six-season stretch in which EC hosted at least one playoff game. During that time, Elmira was 5-4 at home including winning the 2010-11 ECAC West Championship.

A Program First
Last weekend saw Elmira fell to Hobart College in overtime on consecutive nights. This is the first time in EC's 39-year history that the Purple and Gold have lost back-to-back overtime games.

Consecutive Nights with Overtime
For the first time in nine years, Elmira College played overtime games on consecutive nights. The last time this occurred was on October 29 and 30, 2004 during a home-and-home series with Oswego State. The Soaring Eagles and the Lakers tied both games, 3-3 in game one and 2-2 in game two.

Leading the Nation
After scoring his 10th power play goal of the season against Hobart on February 22nd, Josh Burnell '15 moved into a three-way tie for the most power play goals in the nation. Burnell joins Louis Belisle of Middlebury College and Sean Orlando of Trinity College at the top of the list with 10 power play goals, or 0.42 power play goals per game.

Four with Double-Digits
Four Elmira skaters have recorded double-digit goals this season, which follows a 2012-13 season in which no EC player reached that plateau. Josh Burnell '15, Michael Collins '16, Jarryd ten Vaanholt '16, and Jesper Strale '14 have each scored at least 10 goals this season with Burnell leading the way with 15. This is the first time since the 2009-10 season that at least four players have reached double-digits, when five players did it.

What a Turnaround!
The Soaring Eagles were scored on 128 times last season and had a goal differential of -40. 2012-13 was the first time in over 13 seasons that EC finished a season with negative scoring margin but the men have pulled a a 180 this season. The Purple and Gold have only allowed 83 goals entering the ECAC West playoffs, equaling a 45-goal turnaround. This is the best improvement in over 13 seasons, the closest being a 30-goal improvement from the 2006-07 season to 2007-08.

Not Since 2002-03
Rookie goaltender Sal Magliocco '17 missed the final portion of the regular season due to injury, but prior to that, the Roslyn, NY native had posted one of the best seasons by a first-year netminder in Elmira College history. Magliocco posted an 11-6-0 record, recorded 542 saves with a .911 save percentage, and registered a 3.21 goals against average. His 542 saves are the most by a rookie goaltender since the 2002-03 season when former EC great Greg Fargo '06 stopped 641 his freshman season.
