Series Sweep
Elmira's 11-point win over Utica College sealed EC's seventh win of the season. More impressively, it also sealed the season series sweep of the Pioneers, marking the first time since the 2004-05 season that Elmira has swept a season series against an Empire 8 opponent.
Season Low - Promise it's a Good Thing
Elmira showed how careful they can be with the ball in their hands as the Soaring Eagles only committed three turnovers against Utica College, their lowest amount of the season. EC's three turnovers are the fewest they have committed in over 12 years. It is also the sixth time this season EC has committed fewer than 10 turnovers, going 2-4 in those games.
Season High - Also a Good Thing
Also in the Utica game, Elmira dished out 21 assists, the most they have recorded this season. It tops the previous high of 20, which was set the previous day against Houghton College. EC's 21 assists are also the most they have recorded since the 2008-09 season when EC also assisted on 21 baskets against Nazareth College on February 2, 2009. The last time Elmira had more than 21 assists dates back even further, going back to the 2003-04 season when EC recorded 30 assists in an 81-56 victory over RIT on February 7, 2004.
Most Since 2002-03
In Elmira's victory over Houghton College, the Soaring Eagles dropped 89 points on the Highlanders to secure a 21-point win. Elmira's 89 points are the most they have scored all season and the most they have put up since the 2002-03 season when the Purple and Gold scored 96 points in a 96-79 win over RIT on January 25, 2003.
1,000-Point Scorer on the Horizon
With 25 points this weekend, senior
Josh Keys '14 upped his career total to 980, just 20 points shy becoming a 1,000-point scorer. When Keys reaches the 1,000-point plateau, he will become the first player to do so since Bobby DiPiazza '11 did it in 2011.
No. 1 in Sight
Josh Keys '14 is also closing the gap between him and Ryan Bennett '01 for the leader on EC's all-time three-pointers made list. After seven more successful three-point attempts over the weekend, Keys is only eight made threes from tying Bennett and nine from standing alone at the top.
The Kid's No Slouch
Since his return,
Chris Cassidy '14 has shown how valuable he can be on the offensive side of the ball. The senior forward has seen his minutes and his points increase with each passing game. In Elmira's last two wins, Cassidy posted his two highest point totals of the season, scoring 25 against Houghton and another 26 against Utica. Maybe more impressive about those games was his efficiency from the field, going 19-for-27 for a field goal percentage of .704.
