Live Coverage Coverage
Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College women's basketball team welcomes two of the top teams in the Empire 8 Conference to Speidel Gymnasium this weekend as the Soaring Eagles wrap up their six-game homestand. The women will take on conference leader Hartwick College at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 7th and then will square-off against Stevens Tech on Saturday, February 8th at 4:00 p.m.

Alone at the Top
With 13:32 remaining in the second half, Jessica Zoltowski '14 stole the ball near midcourt and drove in for a fast-break layup, giving her 16 points on the night. More importantly, those two points gave Zoltowski 1,458 career points, giving her sole possession of first place in Elmira College history in points scored. Zoltowski broke a 32-year old record which was previously held by Mary Kay Babcock '82.

Another Number 1 in the Cards
Jessica Zoltowski '14 may have just supplanted Mary Kay Babcock '82 as EC's all-time leading scorer, but she is on her way to setting another Elmira College record. After knocking down 10-of-11 free throw attempts against Alfred University, Zoltowski has 329 career free throws made. She trails current leader, Martha Bolduc '97, by 11 made free throws. Zoltowski averages 5.8 free throw makes per game making it just a matter of time before she surpasses Bolduc at the top of this category.

Career-High for Balara
Zoltowski was not the only EC player to have a big night against the Saxons as Alex Balara '15 turned in one of the best games of her career. The junior scored a career-high 18 points earning her points from all over the floor. She knocked down three three-pointers and hit seven of her nine free throws attempts. Balara also pulled down seven rebounds, handed out two assists, and recorded two steals.

Providing Second Chance Opportunities
EC grabbed 16 offensive rebounds in their 13-point win over Alfred University, the 11th time this season that the Soaring Eagles have pulled down double-digit offensive boards. The Purple and Gold is 10-1 when recording double-digit offensive rebounds, their only loss coming to Emerson College. Oddly enough, EC posted their season-high for offensive rebounds in that game, tallying 20 in the defeat.

Nearing a Milestone
Maria Thannhauser '14 had her fourth straight double-digit scoring performance against Alfred University, pouring in 14 points on an efficient 6-of-11 shooting. The 14 points ups her career total to 954, leaving her just 46 points from reaching the 1,000 point mark for her career. Thannhauser is on pace to reach the 1,000-point plateau on February 15th when EC hosts Nazareth College where she will become the fifth player in Elmira College history to score 1,000 career points.
