Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College women's basketball team (14-5, 6-3 E8) snapped a three-game winning streak as they fell 67-48 to Empire 8 Conference foe Hartwick College (17-4, 10-1 E8).
Jessica Zoltowski '14 led the Soaring Eagles with 15 points, five rebounds, one assist and one steal while
Maria Thannhauser '14 tallied 10 points, three steals, three assists and two rebounds in the loss.
In the first six minutes of the game the lead changed four times as neither team had a lead more than three points. With the Hawks leading 9-8 5:57 into the game, a layup by Alicia Razanousky '16 sparked an 18-3 run. For the rest of the half EC tried to chip away at Hartwick's lead, but would finish the first half trailing, 23-36. Zoltowski finished the first half with eight points, while Thannhauser and
Liz Forrest '14 both dropped four points apiece.
The Hawks came out the locker room strong as they scored the first nine points of the second half. With 8:48 left in the game, EC found themselves down 56-34. But that did not stop the Soaring Eagles to regroup and go on a 10-5 run. The Purple and Gold would eventually run out of time before completing the comeback. Zoltowski led the EC women in the second half with seven points while Thannhauser drained six points.
The Soaring Eagles won't have much time to rest as they square off against Stevens Institute of Technology in another Empire 8 contest tomorrow, February 8
th, at 4:00 p.m.
