Women's Basketball Suffers Setback Against Stevens Tech

Box Score

Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College women's basketball team (14-6, 6-4 E8) could not get much going offensively as the women fell to Stevens Tech (15-7, 8-4 E8), 62-46. Jessica Zoltowski '14 led the way, pacing all scorers with 24 points, but was the lone Soaring Eagle in double-figures on the afternoon.

The Purple and Gold did not start out shooting well from the field, missing 11 of their first 13 shots from the floor, but EC only trailed by six, 16-10, after Karli Pochkar '16 hit a pair of free throws with 8:41 left in the first half. Zoltowski converted a three-point play and then knocked down a deep shot from behind the arc to cut it to a 20-16 game, but that would be as close as the Soaring Eagles would get for the rest of the game as Stevens closed the half on a 14-4 run to take a 34-20 lead into the locker rooms.

EC was more aggressive in the second half as the women attempted to cut into the lead, but the deficit proved too much to overcome as Stevens closed out the 62-46 win.

Zoltowski pulled down three rebounds, handed out a team-high three assists, and recorded a game-high four steals on top of her 24 points. Pochkar chipped in seven points off the bench and Alex Balara '15 scored seven points and recorded five rebounds from her point guard position.

For the game, EC shot 27.5 percent from the floor while Stevens shot nearly 45 percent. Elmira was also outrebounded 37-28, the second game in a row the Soaring Eagles have lost the battle on the glass.

The women will look to get back in the win column on Wednesday, February 12th when they travel to the Pennsylvania College of Technology for a non-conference game. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
