Men’s Volleyball Concludes Regular Season By Splitting Two Games At The MIT Scramble

Cambridge, MA -- The Elmira College men's volleyball team split two matches in the second day of the MIT Scramble to finish the regular season with a 23-9 overall record and a 8-3 mark inside the UVC. The Purple and Gold started the day with a 3-0 sweep of Bard College and finished the day with a 1-3 loss against Hunter College.

Elmira 3, Bard 0 – 25-20, 25-14, 25-11

EC started the day with a 3-0 win over Bard College. Felix Garcia Ramos '16 led the Soaring Eagles offensively with 12 kills in the first match of the day. Michael Vellutato '14 set up the attack with 27 assists while Rob Shade '15 led defensively with 12 digs. Dylan Kuhn '16 tallied three block assists while Vellutato recorded two in the win.

Elmira 1, Hunter 3 – 25-19, 13-25, 22-25, 24-26

Elmira finished the day falling to Hunter College, 3-1. The Soaring Eagles displayed a balanced offense as three members tallied double-digits in the loss. Erik Griffin '16 led all with 17 kills while Ryan Gelenitis '14 and Mike Ellison '16 followed him with 11 and 10, respectively. Vellutato once again set the attack up with 49 assists while Shade once again led the defense with 18 digs. Griffin and Vellutato were also strong defensively as they tallied 14 and 12 digs, respectively. Kuhn registered five block assists while Ellison and Vellutato posted three block assists apiece as well.  
 
Elmira finished the regular with an 8-3 mark inside the UVC, giving them the fourth seed in the UVC post season tournament. The Purple and Gold will compete against the fifth seed No. 9 Medialle College on Saturday, April 12th at 10:30 a.m.
