Elmira, NY -- Following a 2-2 weekend at the University of Rochester Tournament, the Elmira College women's volleyball team will be looking to continue the strides they made at this weekend's Lycoming College Invitational in Williamsport, PA. The Soaring Eagles open tournament play on Friday, September 12th at 4:00 p.m. against York College of Pennsylvania.
Last Time OutElmira posted a 2-2 record at the University of Rochester Tournament, picking up wins against Skidmore College and The Sage Colleges. EC scored a 3-0 sweep against Skidmore, giving the Soaring Eagles their first win of the 2014 season, and then picked up their second win with a tight 3-2 victory over Sage.
Sami Hanes '16 shined for the Purple and Gold over the weekend as she recorded 115 assists, leading to an All-Tournament Team selection. Hanes also posted a career-high 19 digs against Sage and a season-high 39 assists as well.
80-Plus DigsIn Elmira's five-set thriller against Sage, the Soaring Eagles recorded 83 digs as a team, a season-high for the Purple and Gold. It is also the first time Elmira has record 80 or more digs in a single match since last year's five-setter against SUNY Cortland when EC posted a whopping 113.
Steady ContributorEntering the 2014 season, Elmira knew they were going to need to get more production out of several returning hitters. One that has stepped up through the early goings of the season so far has been
Amanda Blinkinsop '16 who leads the team in kills with 41 and also boasts a team-leading .236 hitting percentage. She has already logged two double-digit kill performances, including an 11 kill night against Sage, marking a career-high for the Colton, CA native.
