Men’s Soccer Eyes First Win at Hilbert

Elmira College vs. Hilbert College
Game DetailsSaturday, Sep. 13 - Hamburg, NY - 3:00 p.m.
Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College men's soccer team will be in pursuit of their first win of the 2014 season this weekend as the Soaring Eagles travel to Hamburg, NY to face Hilbert College for a non-conference tilt.

Last Time Out
Elmira has had arguably one of the toughest season opening schedules in the region as the Purple and Gold have faced a pair of nationally ranked teams in SUNY Cortland and Oneonta State, as well as a 2013 NCAA Tournament team in King's College.  In Elmira's most recent contest, the Soaring Eagles dropped a 4-0 decision to No. 13 nationally ranked Oneonta State.  Junior keeper Austin Mansell '16 made a career-high 11 saves, the most saves an EC goalkeeper has made since October 8, 2011 when former standout Jared Micheller '12 stopped 12 shots in a 2-1 loss to Stevens Tech.

Scouting Hilbert
Hilbert College enters this weekend's contest with a 1-3 overall record after taking down Alfred University last Wednesday, 2-1.  The Hawks of Hilbert will look to avoid early lapses on defense as they have surrendered four goals within the first 10 minutes of play in two of their three losses.  However, second-year netminder Brandon Henry should feel confident after coming off a career-high 10-save effort in Hilbert's one goal win over Alfred.  Henry has 18 saves on the season.

Series History
Since 2002, Elmira and Hilbert have squared off six times with the Soaring Eagles claiming victories in all six contests.  In four of their six previous meetings, the outcome was decided by just one goal while the other two were decided by five or more.  Elmira won the most recent meeting back in 2011 when the Soaring Eagles scored a 2-1 road win.

Looking Ahead
Following Saturday's contest against Hilbert, the Soaring Eagles will return to Campus Field as Elmira hosts former Empire 8 Conference foe, and current Liberty League opponent, Rochester Institute of Technology on Tuesday, September 16th at 4:00 p.m.
