Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College women's volleyball team will look to bounce back from last weekend's Lycoming College Invitational as the Soaring Eagles travel to face Ithaca College in EC's Empire 8 Conference opener.
Last Time OutElmira had a tough weekend at the Lycoming College Invitational, dropping all four matches. With the losses, Elmira's overall record stands at 2-7. The lone bright spot for the Purple and Gold was third-year setter
Sami Hanes '16 who totaled 73 assists over the four matches as well as 18 digs. For her efforts, Hanes was named to the Lycoming College Invitational All-Tournament Team.
Scouting the BombersIthaca enters Tuesday night's matchup with Elmira with a 7-3 overall record after going 2-1 at the Ramapo Roadrunner Invitational. The Bombers are led by Joelle Goldstein, who has put away 92 kill attempts this season and is averaging a conference-leading 3.29 kills per set average. Also keep an eye on Dylan Gawinski Stern who has 80 kills this season and ranks 10th in the Empire 8 in kills per set with a 2.67 average.
Conference OpenersTomorrow's match will be both teams' Empire 8 Conference opener. Since 2001, Elmira has gone 12-1 in conference-opening matches, with their only loss occurring in the 2008 season to Nazareth College. Ithaca has gone 7-4 in conference-opening games since 2003, but one of the Bombers' conference opening wins came in the form of a 3-2 victory of Elmira in 2008.
Series HistorySince 2001, Ithaca has gotten the better of the Soaring Eagles as the Bombers own a 16-6 record. Starting in 2001, Ithaca won 16 consecutive matches but saw their streak come to an end in 2011, and since then, Elmira has won six straight against the Bombers.
