Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College women's volleyball team will look to put an end to a lengthy losing streak as the Soaring Eagles travel to take on Alfred State tonight at 7:00 p.m.
 
Last Time Out
Elmira suffered a pair of losses in their last weekend of play, dropping Empire 8 Conference matches to Stevens Institute of Technology and Houghton College.  Third-year setter Sami Hanes '16 accumulated 50 assists in the two matches while libero Kelsey Ross '16 totaled 23 digs, including a 15 dig effort against Houghton.
 
Series History
The Soaring Eagles and the Pioneers of Alfred State do not have much of a history as last year was the first time the two teams squared off in over 10 years.  During the 2013 season, Elmira and Alfred State faced each other two times, splitting a pair of matches.  The Pioneers edged Elmira in the first meeting, 3-2 at the Oswego State Invitational, but the Purple and Gold responded three days later with a 3-1 victory at Speidel Gymnasium.
 
Scouting Alfred State
Alfred State enters tonight's match with a  10-2 overall record and are riding high on a seven-match win streak, winning five of those seven matches by the score of 3-0.  Kay Pfleghardt is Alfred's leader on offense as she has totaled 139 kills this season, average 3.76 kills per set.  Orchestrating the Alfred offense will be Lera Braun who boasts 322 assists through the young season.
 
Looking Ahead
Elmira will use tonight's matchup as a tune-up for this weekend's SUNY IT Tournament.  The Soaring Eagles open tournament play against tournament host SUNY IT on Friday, September 26th at 7:00 p.m.
