Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College women's volleyball team is coming off a tough road loss to Alfred State, but the Soaring Eagles will look to bounce back this weekend at the SUNY IT Tournament.  Tournament play begins tonight, September 26th with the Purple and Gold taking on the Wildcats of SUNY IT at 7:00 p.m.
 
Last Time Out
The Soaring Eagles came up on the wrong end of a 3-0 result against the Pioneers of Alfred State.  Sami Hanes '16 was the lone bright spot for EC as she recorded 20 assists, 10 digs, and two aces, all of which were team highs.
 
Series History
Elmira will play against three teams at this weekend's tournament.  Below is the breakdown of how Elmira has fared against these teams since the 2001 season. 
 
SUNY IT: 0-0 (first meeting since 2001)
Alfred State: 1-2 (last meeting on 9/24/14 – Elmira 0, Alfred 3)
Utica College: 16-0 (last meeting in 2013 – Elmira 3, Utica 0)
 
Lopsided Series
Elmira and Utica have played each other 16 times since 2001 with the Soaring Eagles walking away victorious in each of the 16 matchups.  However, it is how Elmira has won that makes this series so lopsided as 15 of EC's wins have come by a score of 3-0.  The only time the Purple and Gold have not swept the Pioneers dates back to the 2007 season when Elmira edged Utica, 3-2. 
 
Looking Ahead
Following this weekend's matchups at SUNY IT, the Soaring Eagles will host Nazareth College and Hartwick College on Saturday, October 4th at the Empire 8 Tri-Match.  Elmira opens play against the Golden Flyers of Nazareth at 11:00 a.m. and then face Hartwick at 4:00 p.m.
