Utica, NY -- The Elmira College women's volleyball team (2-14, 0-3 E8) dropped a pair of matches in the second day of the SUNY IT Tournament today. The EC women fell 3-1 to both Alfred State College (15-2) and Utica College (7-9, 1-2 E8).

The Soaring Eagles suffered their second loss in three days to the Pioneers of Alfred State. Elmira split the first two sets but were unable to push things to a fifth as Alfred State won the final two sets.
Paola Ortiz '16 led Elmira with nine kills while
Sami Hanes '16 setup the EC offense, logging 32 assists.
Kelsey Ross '16 led the Soaring Eagle defense with 13 digs.

The Purple and Gold dropped the second match of the day against Utica College. After falling 2-0, Elmira fought back and won the third set but could not use momentum to tie up the sets as the Pioneers won the fourth set.
Ross led the defensive charge with a career-high 36 digs while
Ashley Heiman '16 tallied 17 kills in today's contest. Hanes, once again, set up Elmira's offense with 42 assists.
The Soaring Eagles will be back in action next Saturday, October 4th when EC hosts an Empire 8 tri-match. Elmira will take on Nazareth College at 11:00 a.m. and then Hartwick College at 4:00 p.m.
