Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College women's basketball team will hit the road this weekend to compete in a pair of Empire 8 Conference games. The EC women will start at Hartwick College tomorrow, January 16th at 6:00 p.m. and then travel to Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday, January 17th at 3:00 p.m.
Empire 8 Rookie of the WeekAfter averaging 15.0 points per game, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists last week,
Danielle Cleary '18 was named the Empire 8 Conference Rookie of the Week. This is the fourth time this season Cleary has been tabbed with this honor.
EC PickpocketingElmira recorded a season-high 11 steals against Houghton College last week. This is the most steals that the EC women have tallied in a single-game since posting the same amount against Stevens Institute of Technology on February 21st, 2014.
Two Top-10 ScorersDanielle Cleary '18 and
Alex Balara '15 lead the Purple and Gold in scoring this season and both rank inside the top-10 in the Empire 8 Conference. Cleary is averaging 15.6 points per contest to rank fifth while Balara is posting 14.4 points per game to place eighth in the Empire 8.
Dishing Out AssistsKelsey Geisler '15 and
Alex Balara '15 are both in the top-10 in assists in the Empire 8 Conference. Geisler sits in second place with 3.8 per game, just 0.8 away from first, while Balara is ninth with 2.5 per contest. Geisler is also tied for fifth in the Empire 8 in assist-to-turnover ratio with 1.0, 0.5 off from Samantha Klie of Ithaca College.
