Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College men's volleyball team will travel to Union, NJ to compete in the Kean Men's Volleyball Classic this weekend. The Purple and Gold will kick-off the tournament against host No. 6 Kean tonight at 4:00 p.m. The Soaring Eagles will then take on Endicott College and Hunter College tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., respectively.
Opening TournamentsEC has opened each of the previous four seasons competing in a tournament. The EC men have gone 7-7 in season-opening tournaments, including a 2-1 record at the Juniata Tournament that kicked-off the 2014 season.
Kean Men's Volleyball ClassicThis is the second consecutive season Elmira has competed in the Kean Classic. Last season the Purple and Gold went 2-1 at the tournament with both a win and a loss to nationally ranked teams.
Elmira Picks Up Where They Left OffThe Purple and Gold received a final national ranking of number 10 in the country in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Poll. In the 2015 preseason poll, the EC men retained the number 10 national ranking in the AVCA. The number 10 ranking marks the highest the Soaring Eagles were ranked in the preseason poll, eclipsing the 2014 preseason rank of 14.
All-Time vs. KeanElmira has competed against Kean five times in program history. In those five matchups, the EC men hold a slight advantage with a 3-2 mark against the Cougars. The Purple and Gold have won the past two matchups both of which came in the 2014 season.
