Rochester, NY -- The Elmira College women's basketball team (6-9, 3-5 E8) fell to Empire 8 Conference foe Nazareth College (9-6, 4-2 E8) 62-41 today.
Alex Balara '15 led the Soaring Eagles with 14 points, four steals, and two rebounds in today's action.
Karli Pochkar '16 posted 11 points and four rebounds while
Kelsey Geisler '15 chipped in with eight points, a rebound, and an assist. The Purple and Gold experienced trouble shooting from the floor today, making just 25.5 percent from the field and 25.0 from beyond the arc. EC also struggled on the boards today as the Purple and Gold were out-rebounded 42-29 in the loss.
Nazareth kicked off the game with a 14-4 run while Geisler responded with five points to trail the Golden Flyers 14-10. Elmira battled to try and chip away at Nazareth's lead but would head into the locker room trailing, 29-20. Pochkar led the Purple and Gold in the first half with seven points and two rebounds.
The Golden Flyers slowly built upon their lead in the second half, taking as much as a 25-point lead with 3:07 remaining in regulation time. The Purple and Gold finished the game with a 5-3 run and would fall, 62-41. Balara scored 10 of her points in the second frame.
The Soaring Eagles will compete next on January 23rd when the Purple and Gold travel to Utica College for an Empire 8 Conference game at 6:00 p.m.
