College Hockey Stats Box Score
Rochester, NY -- The Elmira College men's ice hockey team (9-8-3, 3-5-2 ECAC West) fell to Nazareth College (10-7-3, 6-2-2 ECAC West), 2-1, in an ECAC West matchup tonight.
Tommy Sumi '16 scored EC's lone goal while
Sal Magliocco '17 made 29 saves in the loss.
The game remained scoreless until 4:48 left in the first when the Golden Flyers capitalized on a power-play opportunity to take a 1-0 lead. At the end of the first, the score remained 1-0 despite Elmira outshooting Nazareth, 15-11.
Sumi evened the score up at 1-1 5:49 into the second period after
Greg Whittle '16 and
Jarryd ten Vaanholt '16 put the puck on his stick and he converted on the man-up advantage. With 5:34 left in the second stanza, Nazareth scored to make it a 2-1 game. The EC men again held the shot advantage in the second, 10-9.
Down 2-1 with 1:20 remaining in regulation, the Soaring Eagles pulled Magliocco to give the EC men a last-minute advantage to try to force overtime. However, Elmira was unable to find the equalizer before time expired as they fell, 2-1.
The Soaring Eagles will compete next on February 6th when the EC men host Neumann University at 7:00 p.m.
