Score: Elmira College 3 – Oswego State 0
Records: Elmira (4-6), Oswego State (2-7)
Location: Laker Turf Stadium – Oswego, NY

Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College field hockey team continued its winning ways on Saturday afternoon, besting Oswego State 3-0 at Laker Turf Stadium. The victory was the third straight for the Soaring Eagles, marking its longest winning streak since 2002.

Elmira's penalty corner play has been quite strong in recent contests and the Soaring Eagles used the opportunity to cash in with an early goal 10 minutes into play on Alli Gilbert's '16 fourth goal of the season. Sarah McCaffrey '18 started the scoring play, inserting the ball to Gilbert at the top of the arc. She ripped a shot that eluded Oswego State keeper Grace Lombardi.

The Soaring Eagles generated their second goal with the penalty corner as well just over five minutes later. McCaffrey inserted the ball to defender Julia Derco '17 at the center point of the arc. She ripped a shot that looked to be heading into the cage; however, it was stopped illegally by Monica Harvey. Derco was awarded a penalty stroke opportunity and did not miss her chance to cash in, tallying her second goal over the last three games.

Elmira keeper Julie Hockenberger '18 did well to make the 2-0 lead stand into the halftime break. She stopped three shots in the opening 35 minutes, while the Elmira defense did well to neutralize six Laker penalty corner opportunities.

Derco would continue her sizzling offensive streak to put the game beyond doubt in the 44th minute in almost a carbon copy situation to her first of the afternoon. Oswego State's Emily Brockwell made an initial defensive save on a shot by Gilbert off a penalty corner. The rebound fell to Derco, who sent a shot on cage which was played illegally by Brockwell to set up a second penalty stroke opportunity. Derco calmly slotted home the shot, becoming the first Elmira player to tally two penalty strokes in the same game.

Turning Point
The Soaring Eagles dominated play through the early going, including an early goal by Alli Gilbert. Julia Derco gave Elmira some nice insurance in the 16th minute, slotting home her first of two penalty stroke opportunities on the day. It would be more than enough offense for Elmira keeper Julie Hockenberger '18, who notched her first full-game shutout of the season.
