Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College women's basketball team is gearing up to host a pair of Empire 8 Conference showdowns this weekend. The Purple and Gold will start the weekend by welcoming Stevens Institute of Technology tonight at 6:00 p.m. and then take on Hartwick College tomorrow at 2:00 p.m.
Racking Up the Points After failing to score more than 40 points in each of the the past three games, Elmira erupted for 88 points against Penn College on February 9th. This is the most points scored by EC in a single game in almost eight years. Elmira dropped 92 points on Ithaca College on February 24th, 2007.
Two with 25-Plus Against Penn College,
Danielle Cleary '18 and
Alex Balara '15 teamed up to accomplish something that hasn't been done for over 13 years at Elmira College. Cleary and Balara become the first two players to score 25 or more points each in the same game. The closest to it being done in that time was former standouts
Jessica Zoltowski '14 and
Maria Thannhauser '14 who each scored 22 points in a single-game twice in the 2012-13 season.
Double-Doubles Danielle Cleary '18 posted her first career double-double against Penn College with 28 points and 10 rebounds.
Meghan Loya '16 also tallied a double-double, the second of her career, with 14 points and 12 rebounds. This is the first time since February 16th, 2013 that two players have produced a double-double in the same game when
Jessica Zoltowski '14 and
Alex Balara '15 did it against Utica College. Zoltowski posted 32 points and 10 rebounds while Balara tallied 12 points and 12 rebounds in the game.
The Pick-Pocket MasterAlex Balara '15 recorded a career-high seven steals against Penn College. This is the third time this season that she has posted five or more steals in a single-game. She now has a season average of 3.3 that ranks tied for first in the Empire 8 Conference.
