Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Utica on Senior Day

Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College women's lacrosse team (2-12, 1-6 E8) fell, 20-11, to Utica College (8-4, 3-2 E8) in an Empire 8 Conference matchup today. Marissa Mongillo '15 and Ashton Hogan '15 led with four goals apiece while Lindsay Wargo '17 made eight saves in today's game.
 
The Pioneers scored the game's first two goals over the first 2:05 to take a quick 2-0 lead. Hogan answered back just 4:28 later after receiving a pass from Moorea Spoljaric '16 to trail 2-1. Utica responded with three straight goals to take a 5-1 lead. Mongillo scored her first goal with 16:10 left in the first half to trail, 5-2. The Pioneers scored three straight goals again to take an 8-2 lead with 11:49 left in the first half.
 
Elmira then scored back-to-back goals to cut Utica's lead to 8-4 with 10:56 left in the first. Spoljaric scored the first of the two goals after Kelcey Crawford '18 set up the play while Hogan netted the second with Spoljaric being credited with the assist. The Pioneers and Elmira traded goals with Hogan scoring again to trail Utica 9-5 with 7:49 left in the half. Utica then scored two straight goals to increase their lead to 11-5 before Hogan would score again with 4:02 to play in the first to trail 11-6. The Pioneers scored with 3:50 left before Mongillo received a pass from Kylie Connell '17 and netted her second goal of the game to trail 12-7 with 2:46 left in the half. Utica scored one more time before heading into to halftime with a 13-7 lead.
 
Utica started the second half with five goals to up their lead to 18-7. Spoljaric, Laura Powell '16, and Mongillo scored EC's next three goals to cut the Pioneers' lead to 18-10. Utica netted the game's next two goals to take a 20-10 lead before Mongillo scored the game's final goal to fall, 20-11.
 
The Purple and Gold will compete next on April 21st when the EC women travel to Montclair State University to compete in their final road game of the regular season.
