Baseball Drops a Pair to Keuka

Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College baseball team dropped a pair of seven-inning games to Keuka College this evening. Both offenses showed out in a 18-7 slugfest that the Wolfpack won in game one while it was more a pitcher's duel in game two as Keuka came away with a 6-1 victory.

Dylan Bellinger'17 extended his hitting streak to four games with a 4-for-7 performance from the plate in the two games. The Elmira native had four RBI in the first game and two of his three hits in the opening game went for extra bases.

The other players recording multiple hits on the day were Hayden Rothenberg'17 and Dennis Rudolph'18. Rothenberg was 3-for-7 with three runs scored from the leadoff spot while Rudolph was 2-for-7 at the plate.

Game One: Keuka 18, Elmira 7
There was plenty of offense to go around in the opening innings of the first game as the two teams scored a combined 13 runs through three innings. Keuka got two runs in the top of the first to take a 2-0 lead, but EC strung together a four-run first inning, capped-off by a two-run single by Rey Colon '18, to go on top, 4-2. Elmira was unable to hold the lead, however, as the Wolfpack would get four runs of their own in the top of the second inning to take a 6-4 lead. The flurry of runs continued as the Soaring Eagles tied the score at six with a two-RBI double by Bellinger.

Unfortunately, EC could not keep Keuka off the scoreboard as the Wolfpack got one run in the top of the third inning and three runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a 10-6 lead. The Soaring Eagles were able to keep the game within reach and had chances to cut into the deficit, but Keuka broke the game open with a five-run sixth inning. After EC scored a run in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Wolfpack added three runs in the seventh inning for the 18-7 finish.

Game Two: Keuka 6, Elmira 1
In contrast to the first game, there was only one run scored in the first two innings, an unearned run that the Wolfpack were able to get in the top of the first inning. Then, after an Elmira pitching change for the third inning, Keuka turned the 1-0 game into a 4-0 game with three runs in the third inning.

After the Wolfpack made it 5-0 in the fourth inning, EC cut into the deficit with their first run of the game. The Soaring Eagles threatened to get more in the inning, with runners on second and third, but Keuka worked out of the jam to keep their four-run advantage. Elmira would allow one more run in the seventh inning, bringing the game to its 6-1 finish.

Elmira welcomes Stevens Tech to Dunn Field for a three-game set this weekend. The first two games are scheduled for Saturday, April 25th with the first game starting at 12:00 p.m.
