Ithaca, NY -- The Elmira College softball team (8-12, 1-10 E8) dropped a pair of games against Empire 8 Conference foe Ithaca College (19-11, 11-3 E8) today.
Julianne Heggie '16 led the Soaring Eagle offense with two hits in today's action.
Game One: Ithaca 2, Elmira 0The Bombers scored their first run in the bottom on the second inning after the runner advanced to third on a wild pitch and then took home after an Elmira error. Ithaca added to their lead one inning later with a homerun. The Purple and Gold's comeback fell just short as the EC women left a runner on base in two different innings, but could not bring them home.
Game Two: Ithaca 9, Elmira 1 (F/5)Ithaca took an early 1-0 after the first inning after taking advantage of an EC error. The Bombers added four more runs to their lead in the second inning. Elmira responded in the top of the third inning when
Chelsie Roberts '17 led with a single to left field.
Jacquelyn Heggie '16 stepped up to bat next and dropped a sacrifice bunt down the third base line to move Roberts over to second. After
Julianne Heggie line out to center field,
Ashley Palmer '16 double to center field, driving Roberts home to put the Soaring Eagles on the board. However, that would all the runs the Purple and Gold would score for the remainder of the game as the Ithaca's pitching proved too strong for the EC women. The Bombers would score four more runs to win the game in the fifth inning, 9-1.
The Purple and Gold will compete next tomorrow, April 26th when the Soaring Eagles host Stevens Tech in an Empire 8 Conference double header beginning at 1:00 p.m.
