Oneonta, NY -- The Elmira College baseball team (3-27) scored a program-best 11 runs en route to an 11-4 victory over Oneonta State (7-23) today.
Mike Burghardt '18 led offensively going 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBI and a run today.
Rey Colon '18 had three hits and two runs while
Dylan Bellinger '18 hit his second career home run today.
Davis Salzman '18 pitched the first six innings of the game and struck out two batters to post his first career win.
With the bases loaded in the first inning, Bellinger reached on a fielder's choice to score
Hayden Rothenberg '17. Colon also took advantage of an error to cross the plate and give the Purple and Gold a 2-0 lead. Later that inning,
Conor Bawiec '18 walked on a passed ball while an error on the play also scored Bellinger to put EC up, 3-0.
Bellinger added to Elmira's lead in the fourth inning when he homered over the left field wall to put the Soaring Eagles up, 4-0. With the bases loaded in the top of the fifth,
Bryce Plante '18,
Harrison Leslie '18, and
Dennis Rudolph '18 all walked to put give the Soaring Eagles a 7-0 advantage.
Rothenberg then filed out to centerfield to send Plante home for EC's eighth run of the game. Colon then reached on an error to load the bases for Burghardt. Burghardt then stepped up to the plate and singled through the right side to score both Leslie and Rudolph, putting Elmira up, 10-0.
Oneonta put two runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth inning to trail, 10-2.
Nate Hanner '18 flew out to right field in the top of the seventh that scored Colon to put EC's 11th run on the board. The Red dragons put two more runs on the board before Elmira won, 11-4.
The Purple and Gold will compete next tomorrow, April 29th when the EC men host Cazenovia College at Dunn Field. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
