Records: Elmira (1-2), D'Youville (0-2)

Pine Valley, NY -- After suffering a pair of heartbreaking losses to open the season, the Elmira College women's tennis team bounced-back in a big way with 9-0 drubbing of visiting D'Youville College.  Today's win for the Soaring Eagles is their first of the 2015 campaign.

Highlighting today's victory was Ayaka Yoshino '16, who continues to make her mark on the EC women's tennis program. Her win at first singles this afternoon gives her a share of the Elmira College career singles victory record.  Also, Yoshino's win in singles and doubles ups her total career win count to 61, good enough for second place in EC history.

There was no question as to who was in the driver's seat this afternoon, as the Soaring Eagles won a staggering 96-of-97 games played.  Elmira began their tear in doubles play as all three doubles team tallied 8-0 victories.

Elmira carried the momentum from doubles into their singles matches, as the Purple and Gold cruised to six singles wins.  Second-year standout Megan Fitzgerald '18 earned the match-clinching point with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at third singles.

In Their Own Words…
Head Coach Tom Linhart on his team's play this afternoon…
"I was really impressed with the confidence and energy our team had today.  They played exceptionally well and continue to improve with the win today."

Coach Linhart on earning his first win at Elmira…
"It feels great as a coach and as a team to get our first win under our belt but overall, I am extremely proud of how much we have improved and how hard we competed.  I am honored to coach this group of ladies."

Coach Linhart on the play of Ayaka Yoshino
"She is a true competitor and champion. Some would be overwhelmed with records but she truly embraces it and I think it makes her a better player. She will continue to be a driving force for us as a team and for our program in the future."
