Live Coverage
Elmira, NY -- After picking up their first win of the season, the Elmira College men's soccer will look to make it two in a row, as the Soaring Eagles travel to take on non-conference opponent RIT tomorrow, September 15th at 4:00 p.m.
Last Time OutElmira is fresh off a 3-1 victory against visiting Hilbert College.
Michael Bryant '17 struck in the first 40 seconds of the game to give the Soaring Eagles an early edge and would score two more times to pace the Purple and Gold to their first win of the season. Elmira's
Tony Barraco '18 was credited with two assists while rookie
John Broyles '19 picked up the first assist of his collegiate career.
Nation's EliteOne thing has been consistent through Elmira's first four games, and that consistency is Bryant's ability to score. The Portola Hills, CA native has six goals through EC's first four games, averaging 1.5 goals per contest. Bryant's scoring average not only leads the Empire 8 Conference, it also ranks fourth in the nation according to the latest NCAA Division III rankings.
Empire 8 AccoladesBryant's hat trick performance against Hilbert was good enough to claim Empire 8 Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors, Elmira's first award winner of the 2015 season. Bryant becomes Elmira's first E8 Offensive Player of the Week since last season, when teammate
Donte Donegal '18 received the award by, coincidentally, scoring three times against Hilbert College.
Creating ChancesThe Soaring Eagles took 23 shots in their last match against Hilbert College, a season-high for Elmira. Credit much of those chances to EC's starting midfielders
Aidan Gray '19, Barraco, and Broyles. Barraco leads Elmira with two assists while Broyles has one, all of them coming in EC's 3-1 win over Hilbert. Gray on the other hand has quietly solidified Elmira's midfield this season with his ability to win 50-50 balls and distribute.
Scouting the TigersRIT welcomes Elmira to Tiger Stadium having dropped their last two contests to Buffalo State and SUNY Cortland. The Tigers, who are 1-3 on the season, have played in three home games this year and are 1-2 in those contests, with their lone win coming in the form of a 2-0 shutout of King's College (PA). Gene Sicoli has been RIT's biggest threat through the 2015 season, as he leads the Tigers with five points on two goals and one assist. Defensively, RIT has used a trio of goalies but Peter Cinibulk has seen the most time between the posts with 169 minutes of action. Cinibulk owns a 1.60 goals against average to go along with 11 saves and a 1-2 record.
Looking AheadElmira will be back in action this Saturday, September 19th, when the Soaring Eagles welcome No. 21 nationally ranked Stevens Institute of Technology to Campus Field for EC's Empire 8 Conference opener. Saturday's contest is set for 1:00 p.m.
