Women’s Volleyball Travels to Alfred for Critical Empire 8 Showdown

Elmira College (7-4, 1-2 E8) vs. Alfred University (1-14, 0-3 E8)
Wednesday, September 30, 2015 | Terry S. Galanis Family Arena – Alfred, NY

Elmira, NY -- After splitting a pair of Empire 8 Conference matches last weekend, the Elmira College women's volleyball team will look to improve to .500 in conference play tomorrow, September 30th, when the Soaring Eagles travel to take on Alfred University for a 6:00 p.m. match.

Getting Back on Track
Elmira opened the 2015 campaign with five straight wins, but since then, the Soaring Eagles have gone 2-4. In EC's first five wins, the Purple and Gold were hitting .224 from the floor but that number has dropped to .119 in its last six matches. Also, in Elmira's first five matches, the Soaring Eagles won the first set in 4-of-5 matches while winning just 3-of-6 first sets in EC's final six matches.

All-Time Series
Elmira owns a decisive edge in the series history against Alfred University.  The two programs have met 50 times since 1978, with the Soaring Eagles winning 39 of those matchups.  EC enters tomorrow's match on a 25-match win streak that dates back to the 1998 season.

Scouting the Saxons
Alfred enters tomorrow's match with a 1-14 record and will be looking to put an end to an ugly 12-match skid. The Saxons dropped a pair of conference matches last weekend against St. John Fisher College and Stevens Institute of Technology, both by 3-1 score lines. Mary Lou Patnaude is Alfred's biggest offensive threat, as she leads the team with 71 kills and a 1.51 kills per set average. Aubrey Totsline is the Saxons' primary setter, as she has 207 assists through the year for a 4.60 assists per set average.

Looking Ahead
Following Wednesday's conference match, the Soaring Eagles will make their way back to Hartwick's Lambros Arena for a second straight weekend, as the Elmira women compete in the Hartwick Holiday Inn Tournament.  Elmira opens tournament play this Friday, October 2nd, with a 4:00 p.m. match against Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.
