HOBOKEN, N.J. -- Michael Bryant '18 scored his conference-leading sixth goal of the season, as the Elmira College men's soccer team dropped a hard-fought road contest to Stevens Institute of Technology, 5-1.
Although Elmira was outscored by four tallies, the Soaring Eagles had numerous opportunities to find the back of the net. EC launched 11 shots in today's setback, only three short of Stevens' 14-shot total.
Two of Elmira's attempts made their way on frame, while three others caromed off the post.
Aidan Gray '19 nearly put the Purple and Gold ahead just 2:12 into the first half but his attempt rattled off the post and back into the field of play. Then in the 76th minute, Gray had another pair of shots bounce off the post within three seconds of each other, denying the sophomore midfielder of his first goal of the season.
Stevens on the other hand placed 10 of its 14 shots on frame. The Ducks broke through for the game's opening score in the 17th minute when Nick DeFelice was able to score out of sea of purple and white jerseys in front of the EC net. The Ducks went on to tally a quartet of goals in a 25-minute span from 53:13 to 78:34 to solidify today's victory.
Turning Point
Despite an 11-shot total, the Soaring Eagles were only able to place two of their attempts on frame. Stevens doubled Elmira's shots-on-goal total, landing 10-of-14 on target. The increased accuracy by the Ducks paid dividends, especially in the second half, when Stevens scored four times on 10 shots.
