CANTON, N.Y. -- The Elmira College women's volleyball team dropped both ends of its doubleheader against SUNY Canton and St. Lawrence University at the Canton Classic, hosted by the Kangaroos on Saturday.
SUNY Canton bested the Purple and Gold with a five-set victory, while EC was defeated in straight sets by the Saints in the neutral site competition.
In the opener, the Roos won the first two sets, before the EC offense came alive. After winning the third set by a dominate score of 25-14, the Soaring Eagles recorded a match-high 18 kills en route to a narrow 25-23 victory in the fourth. However, despite a .match-best 360 attack percentage in the decisive fifth set, the Roos picked up 12 of the 15 points via kills with recording an error, equaling a .522 attack percentage.
Outside hitters
Natalie Schieder '19 and
McKenzie Slaven '20 performed admirably in the loss with 18 and 17 kills, respectively. For Slaven, it was by far the best outing of her brief EC career, as the 17 kills and .342 attack percentage mark her best totals of her debut season.
Schieder was the only Soaring Eagle to post double-digit kills in the nightcap. She now has 10-or-more kills in seven of Elmira's nine matches.
Second-year setter
Taylor Kaznowski '19 earned assists on 28 of EC's 33 kills against St. Lawrence, while picking up her fourth double-double of the season with 10 digs. Kaznowski finished the two matches with a combined 73 assists, 23 digs, and four aces, and was named to the Canton Classic All-Tournament Team.
