ELMIRA, N.Y. -- Elmira College men's soccer looks to extend their 10 game unbeaten streak at home when Skidmore College visits Campus Field on Wednesday, October 5th, at 4:00 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT: The Soaring Eagles lost 5-1 to Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday, October 1st, in Hoboken, New Jersey.
Michael Bryant '18 scored the lone goal for the Soaring Eagles in the 86th minute. Saturday's goal was Bryant's Empire 8 Conference-leading sixth of the season. The Portola Hills, California, native was able to capitalize off of a beautiful long pass to beat the goalie. The Purple and Gold were close to scoring multiple goals, with
Aidan Gray '19 almost scoring three times, but was thwarted by the unfriendly post. Gray's first attempt rattled off of the side of the net in the third minute, which would have given EC the early lead. The Australian native had two more chances in the 76th minute, but he was foiled again by the post twice in a span of three minutes.
BRYANT DOMINATES: Bryant continues to dominate the Empire 8 with his play so far this season. The third-year Soaring Eagle leads the conference in goals, points, and shots. By netting his sixth goal of the season against Stevens, Bryant broke a tie for first-place in goals with Jeff Meyers of St. John Fisher. Bryant's 44 shots are 17 more than his next closest competitor, Tommy Dorsay of Stevens. With six goals and two assists, Bryant also has a conference-leading 14 points.
HOME COOKING: Elmira will look to continue its recent stretch of dominance at home, staying undefeated in their last 10 home games. During EC's 10-game unbeaten streak, the Soaring Eagles have posted a 7-0-3 record and have outscored their opponents, 25-9.
SCOUTING THE THOROUGHBREDS: The Thoroughbreds enter tomorrow's matchup with an overall record of 4-3-2, and a road record of 2-0-1. Skidmore's most recent contest was a 2-0 victory over RIT. In the match against RIT, the Thoroughbreds were led by Alex Ricci, who scored his first two goals of the season, and goalie Derrick Yam, who finished with his fourth shutout of the season. On the offensive end of the pitch, Austin Okoye leads the team in goals with four and is tied with Kevin Santos for the team lead in points with eight. Okoye or Santos recorded a point in three of the four Thoroughbreds' victories this season. The lone common opponent that both programs faced so far this season is Utica College. Skidmore defeated Utica 3-1 at home, and EC defeated the Pioneers 6-1 on the road.
SERIES HISTORY: The Soaring Eagles have not been able to beat the Thoroughbreds in the two times that the programs have faced off. The most recent matchup was a 5-0 loss on the road in Saratoga Springs, New York, in September of 2006. Elmira lost its lone home matchup against Skidmore the previous year, 3-0.
UP NEXT: The Purple and Gold will stay in the friendly confines of Campus Field for an Empire 8 contest against Ithaca College on Saturday, October 8th, at 3:00 p.m.
