Women's Basketball Eyes Third Home Win In A Row vs. Cortland

Elmira, N.Y. -- Coming off of back-to-back wins to start the home portion of the 2016-17 schedule, the Elmira College women's basketball team has its sights set on extending its streak tonight against traditional State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) power, SUNY Cortland, tonight at 5:30 p.m. inside Speidel Gymnasium. The non-conference contest is the third of the current four-game homestand and the last game for the Soaring Eagles in 2016.

GREEN LIGHT FOR GREEN
  • Emily Green paced the Soaring Eagles with 15 points in the most recent win over Penn College. 
  • Fifteen points mark the third-most that Green has scored in a game during her EC career.
  • She shot a season-best 42.9-percent (3-for-7) from beyond the arc against the Wildcats.
  • In Elmira's two wins, Green has made a combined 5-of-13 treys, as compared to only 3-of-20 in the four losses.

VESPUCCI SEEING DOUBLE
  • Rachel Vespucci extended her streak of consecutive games with a double-double to three with her 11-point, 16-rebound performance against Penn College on Tuesday.
  • Sixteen rebounds marked a new single-game career high for the second-year forward out of Macedon, New York.
  • Over that three-game stretch, Vespucci has averaged 15.7 points and 13.3 rebounds per game.
  • On the season, Vespucci climbed to fifth place in the Empire 8 in rebounds per game with a team-leading 9.2.
  • Vespucci is the first Soaring Eagle to register a double-double in three straight contests since former Empire 8 Player of the Year, Jennifer Parker '06.
  • Parker recorded two separate streaks with a trio of double-doubles during the 2003-04 season. In that season, the year she garned the conference's top honor, Parker picked up a total of 11 double-doubles.

SUNY CORTLAND AT A GLANCE
  • The Red Dragons enter Thursday's tilt against Elmira with a 1-2 record.
  • Cortland's lone win of the season came in a neutral site game against St. Lawrence University on November 19th by a score of 86-58.
  • The slow start comes after finishing 2015-16 season with a 17-9 record and a berth in the SUNYAC Tournament.
  • In the win over the Saints, which was played at a neutral site in Ithaca, New York, the Red Dragons made 53.1-percent (34-of-64) of their shots from the floor and a 45.8-percent (11-of-24) from beyond the arc. Both figures are season highs.
  • Kristy Vitucci, a sophomore guard, leads the team in scoring with 16.7 points per game, 12 made 3-pointers, and a 57.1 3-point field goal percentage.
  • Vitucci ranks second in the SUNYAC in all three of those categories. Her 4.0 treys per game average is tops in the league.
  • Cassidy Chapko is second on the team in points per game with 12.7. Of her season's 38 points, she scored 26 in the victory over the St. Lawrence.
  • Chapko is also second on the team with eight made 3-pointers after making 6-of-7 attempts from distance to help the Red Dragons beat the Saints.
