Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College softball team will look to extend its current four-game win streak tomorrow, April 23rd, when the Soaring Eagles travel to face Utica College in an Empire 8 Conference doubleheader. Tomorrow's games are scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. at Utica's Greenman Field.

Elmira flexed its muscle in a pair of non-league games at Morrisville State yesterday evening. The Soaring Eagles exploded for 15 runs in the opening game, highlighted by a grand slam homer by
Julianne Heggie '16, as the Purple and Gold claimed a dominant 15-1 victory. EC followed it up with a 4-0 victory in the nightcap, as
Emily Carlin '17 and
Katie McDougal '18 combined to allow just five hits in a shutout effort.

Heggies Looking to Crack the Top 10
With the 2016 season nearing the end of its run, sisters
Jacquelyn Heggie '16 and
Julianne Heggie '16 are reaching milestone numbers that could place them in the EC record books. With 46 career RBIs, Jacquelyn is just three away from moving into a two-way tie on the all-time list and just four shy of becoming the ninth player in program history to log 50 or more. Heggie's 59 runs scored are also three away from moving into a two-way tie for 10th place in EC history. Her sister Julianne needs just two walks tie for ninth place in program history in that statistical category, while Jacquelyn needs just three additional base-on-balls to reach the same mark.

Carlin Closes in on Top Spot
With three home runs this season,
Emily Carlin '17 owns 11 career homers, which is good enough for second place in program history. Carlin is one of three players in EC history to hit 10 or more home runs in a career. She is also two shy of moving into a two-way tie with current record holder Erin Pruess '12.

Scouting Utica
The Pioneers own a 19-13 overall record this season with a 7-3 mark in conference games, putting the UC women in third place in E8 standings. Utica has won six straight games entering this weekend's games against Elmira and is 7-3 in its last 10 contests. Alysa Russell looks like the real deal at the plate this season, posting a team-leading .405 batting average, which ranks fourth in the Empire 8. She has produced 45 hits on the year, the second-highest total of any player in the E8, making her one of just four players in the conference with 40-plus base-knocks. Nicole Rice has also been stellar at the dish with a team-best 19 RBIs. Abby Monroe and Brittany Meka have split pitching duties for the Pioneers this year. Monroe is 9-6 this season with a 1.43 ERA and 97 strikeouts. Meka is 7-2 in 67.0 innings of work; she owns a 2.72 ERA and has 40 strikeouts.

Elmira and Utica have met 27 times since 2003, clashing twice each season in E8 games and once in the postseason. The Pioneers own a 17-10 edge in the all-time series and have won two straight against the Purple and Gold entering Saturday's contests.

Elmira is back in action on Monday, April 25th, when the Soaring Eagles welcome the Pennsylvania College of Technology for a 3:30 p.m. non-league doubleheader. EC will also be honoring its three graduating seniors on Monday as part of Class of 2016 Recognition Day. Â
