COBLESKILL, N.Y. - The Elmira College softball team hit the road to face the Fighting Tigers of SUNY Cobleskill in a non-conference doubleheader Wednesday afternoon. The Soaring Eagles split the two games, winning 11-4 in game one before narrowly falling in the second.
Game One: Elmira Offense Leads Soaring Eagles to Victory
After two scoreless innings pitched by Emily Huntley, the Soaring Eagles broke through in the third. Sophia Polzella tripled, and Kendall Curreri followed with a double to drive her in. Teona Cruz then singled to score Curreri and later came home on a Cobleskill error. The Fighting Tigers answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning to cut into the deficit, but Elmira's offense stayed hot in the fourth. With the bases loaded, Hannah Colwill delivered a base hit to drive in two runs, and Cruz recorded her second RBI of the game to extend the lead to 6–2. A hit by Riley Storrs brought in another run, and Cruz later scored on an error to give Elmira an 8–2 advantage after four innings. The Soaring Eagles added another run in the fifth when Colwill's sacrifice fly scored Ashlyn VanFleet. After a scoreless sixth inning, Elmira extended its lead with runs driven in by Colwill and Cassidy Wilt. The Fighting Tigers managed two runs in the final inning but could not overcome the deficit, as the Soaring Eagles secured an 11–4 victory.

Hannah Colwill led the way for Elmira with 2 hits and 4 RBI's. Teona Cruz and Sophia Temple each added 2 RBI's.
Game Two: Soaring Eagles Can't Rally Late
The Soaring Eagles picked up where they left off, scoring twice in the first inning behind Polzella and Colwill. The Fighting Tigers responded in the second, scoring their first run on a sacrifice fly before a triple drove in three more to give them a 4–2 lead. Cobleskill added another run in the third, but Elmira answered in the fourth with a strong inning. Kristen Cole's base hit scored Cruz, and Olivia Roccabruna followed with a single to bring home Sophia Temple, pulling the Soaring Eagles within one. The Fighting Tigers extended their lead with runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Elmira attempted a late rally, scoring once in the seventh, but could not complete the comeback, falling 7–5.

Sophia Polzella recorded two hits. Olivia Roccabruna, Kristen Cole, and Hannah Colwill each recorded a hit and an RBI.
