ELMIRA, N.Y. --
The Elmira College women's soccer team looked to put its first tally in the win column this afternoon on a rainy and cloudy day in the Southern Tier. Elmira's hopes of a victory were unrealized though, as visiting SUNY Potsdam claimed a 5-1 win over the Soaring Eagles at Campus Field.

Elmira began the day in good form and enjoyed some early possession, which yielded three shots in the opening 20 minutes of action. However, Potsdam exploded for three goals in a 6:02 span to take a 3-0 lead in the 28th minute. The Bears tacked on another tally in the 43rd minute, as the Potsdam women marched into halftime with a 4-0 advantage.

The Soaring Eagles cut the Potsdam lead to three in the 58th minute, when Jordyn Rousselle '18 knocked-in her first goal of the season. Rousselle's tally was created on a corner kick that was initially defended well, but the Bears failed to clear the ball past the 18-yard box. At the top of the box, Niki Lemper '17 whipped the ball to the far post and found Rousselle, who quickly poked it past the Potsdam keeper for the score.

Unfortunately for Elmira, this would be as close as the team would get, as the Bears added another late score in the 82nd minute to seal a 5-1 victory.

Turning Point
Up until Potsdam's first goal, the Soaring Eagles played the Bears fairly evenly. In fact, Elmira held a 3-to-2 advantage in shots up until the 21st minute, when Potsdam's Olivia Seamans scored the game-opening goal. From there, Potsdam went on to score three times in a 6:02 span to take control of today's contest.
