ELMIRA N.Y. -- The Elmira College men's soccer team will face off against Vassar College on the road Tuesday afternoon in Poughkeepsie, New York, at 4:00 p.m. at Gordon Field.
LAST TIME OUT: Elmira exploded for five first-half goals on its way to a convincing 6-1 victory over Utica College.
Donte Donegal '18 netted his first two goals of the season in the 6th and 17th minutes of the contest. EC dominated in all facets of the game, holding a decisive advantage in shots, 22-7, and corner kicks, 11-3.
BRYANT DOMINATES: Michael Bryant '18 scored two goals and assisted on two more to help lift the Soaring Eagles to a victory over Utica. Bryant's six points and two assists in the game were both single-game career highs. With 1.60 points per game, Bryant leads the Empire 8 Conference and was recently honored by the E8 by being named the conference's Offensive Player of the Week.
GOING ON THE ROAD: The Soaring Eagles struggled on the road to start the season, losing their first two away matches. However, the Purple and Gold were able to pull out a 2-1 victory against Hilbert College in Hamburg, New York, on Saturday September 10th, in large part to a
Michael Bryant goal in the 75th minute.
SCOUTING THE BREWERS: Vassar enters today's contest with a 5-1-1 record, with its lone loss coming in the Brewers' most recent contest to SUNY Oneonta, 4-2. Vassar relied heavily on its defense early in the season. Excluding the loss, the Brewers have only allowed two goals in six matches. The Vassar men are led by goalkeeper Matt Marcelino, who has allowed six goals in seven contests, four of which came in the loss to Oneonta. On offense the Brewers are led by Tanner Sands and freshman Mattie Mrlik. Both players lead the team in points at nine apiece.
ALL-TIME SERIES: EC has only faced off against Vassar five times in the program's history. The Purple and Gold lead the series 3-2. Tuesday's matchup marks the first time that the two programs have met since 1983, which resulted in a 2-0 win for the Brewers.
LOOKING AHEAD: Up next for the Purple and Gold, after their match with Vassar, will be conference foe Houghton College. The two rivals will clash at 3:00 p.m. in Houghton, New York, on Saturday, September 24th.
