Women’s Volleyball Travels to Face SUNY-Delhi for Non-Conference Tilt

DELHI N.Y. -- Elmira College women's volleyball travels to SUNY-Delhi for a non-conference tilt on Tuesday, September 27th. The match is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT: The Soaring Eagles split their two matches at the Empire 8 Conference Crossover on Saturday. EC beat Utica College 3-1 in their second match of the day. The Purple and Gold were led by Alicia Day '17, who posted a career-best 13 kills without an error and a whopping .684 attack percentage. Second-year outside hitter Natalie Schieder '19 also had a strong outing, posting 25 kills, the second most in her young career. The Purple and Gold were not as proficient in the first match, losing 3-0 to St. John Fisher College. Elmira kept the score close in the first two sets, losing 25-20, 25-23, but were not able to claw a set away from the Cardinals.

DAY HAS CAREER OUTING: This was the third time that Day tallied double-digit kills in a match, both of which were in her freshman season. The Mount Laurel, New Jersey, native tallied 12 kills in a 3-1 victory over Mt. Aloysius College in September 2013, and 10 kills in a contest against Houghton College in October 2013.

SCOUTING SUNY-DELHI: The Broncos enter Tuesday's contest with a record of 4-11, the most recent matchup being a 3-0 win over the Culinary Institute of America. Before Saturday's matchup, Delhi had lost three straight contest, two of which were at home. The Broncos are 1-2 at home, only beating a winless Green Mountain College team 3-0. Delhi comes into the contest with a young roster, having no seniors or juniors on the team. SUNY-Delhi is led offensively by sophomores Julia Bretts and Kristen Maslanka, who have 87 and 85 kills, respectively. On the defensive side, freshman Mikayla Catherman leads the team in digs with 199.

SERIES HISTORY: Elmira holds victories over the Broncos in the only two times that the programs have faced off. Last season the Soaring Eagles swept both matchups against the Broncos, winning the first matchup 3-2 and the second 3-0. In the first meeting, EC had to make a dramatic comeback to beat Delhi. After losing the first two sets in a close fashion, 25-20, 25-22, the Soaring Eagles would win the next three sets in dominant style, 25-12, 25-10, 15-8, to pull the victory away from SUNY-Delhi. In the second meeting, the Purple and Gold cruised to an easy victory winning in straight sets: 25-12, 25-14, 25-15. The Broncos struglled in both meetings returning EC's serves. The Soaring Eagles posted their season-highs in aces, with 18 in the first matchup and 19 in the second. Schieder herself posted a career-high seven aces in the second contest.

LOOKING AHEAD: The Soaring Eagles will travel to face SUNY Canton and St. Lawrence University for a non-conference double-header on Saturday, October 1st, in the Canton Classic. The matches are scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
